New Research from the University of South Australia Reveals Peanuts Can d in Weight Loss and Improve Cardiovascular Health

A recent study conducted in collaboration with Texas Tech University has shown that snacking on a handful of peanuts might not only be your favorite treat, but also contribute to weight loss and enhance cardiovascular health. This breakthrough was uncovered by researchers from the University of South Australia, Professor Peter Clifton and Associate Professor Jennifer Keogh.

The study assessed two groups of moderately or highly at-risk Australian adults for type 2 diabetes. The team tested the effects of consuming an additional serving 35 grams of lightly salted dry-roasted peanuts with a weight loss diet agnst a traditional low-fat weight loss diet without peanut consumption. After six months, both groups lost weight 6.7 kg.

The group that added peanuts to their diet showed greater improvements in blood pressure. Those who consumed peanuts experienced lower blood pressures by an average of 5 mmHga reduction associated with decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease by 10.

In this study, participants in the peanut-consuming group ate peanuts twice a day before their mn meals, amounting to 35 grams each time. Contrary to common belief about consuming high-calorie snacks, peanuts were found to be nutrient-rich and have a high satiety value that can help reduce food cravings or overeating.

Assistant Professor Kristina Petersen of Texas Tech University, who co-authored the study, explned the findings:

Consuming peanuts in moderation as part of a weight loss diet offers health benefits. Despite common perceptions that they are high in calories, our research indicates that peanuts' healthy fats and high fiber content can assist with weight management, sd Assistant Prof Petersen.

This result is particularly encouraging for individuals who enjoy nuts.
